So the New Year is in full swing. 3 weeks in.
You may or may not be well on your way to knocking down
If things aren’t quite turning out the way you expected them
to, here’s a little something to help you out.
It’s a very powerful idea one of my mentors passed on to
me years ago and motivates me like very few things do.
It’s a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson:
“Do the thing, have the power.”
So many of us spend our time day-dreaming, wishing, hoping
that change would just happen.
The power for that change, or that power of that change
is in the “doing.”
When you actually DO the work, then you end up with the
power you’re looking for.
It’s literally putting one foot in front of the other and willing
success to happen.
There is also power in that process.
Each step brings you one step closer to your goal.
Each step literally makes it easier for you to reach your
goal – both on a psychological and neurological level.
Psychological: Your mind is becoming stronger as you
build a habit.
Neurological: “Neurons that fire together, wire together” is
a quote attributed to neurophysiologist Donald Hebb. It
simply means that your thoughts and feelings will literally
be wired together with your movements.
So as your body gets stronger, so will your mind.
Pretty cool, huh?
So, not only will doing the thing get you the power, the
more you do the thing, the more power you will get!
One of the keys to “doing the thing” is to make sure
that the “thing” is –
a) broken down into bite-size manageable steps
b) not too complicated
From a workout / training / programming point of view,
the fewer moving parts the better.
Would it surprise you if I said I favor a very simple
“Pull – Push” program?
Pull = KB clean
Push = KB press
Make it even easier and practice them together –
Clean + Press.
It works every single muscle in your body.
You’ll end up with strong hips and legs, a lower back of steel,
and chest, shoulders, and arms that look like they were
carved out of granite – making you feel, look, and BE more
And with very little time invested each week, leaving you
with time to take care of the other stuff you have to do.
I’ve outlined a very specific 3 phase program for you inside
“Kettlebell STRONG!” in order for you to achieve your
strength goals this year.
Phase 1: Strength
Phase 2: Strength capacity / hypertrophy
Phase 3: Conditioning / fat loss
It’s all laid out for you:
Set by set, rep by rep, even rest periods.
All you have to do is put one foot in front of the other and
do each workout as it arrives.
At the end of the 3 phases you will have done all the things,
and you’ll have newfound power – mentally, emotionally, and
“Do the thing, have the power” – get your power here.
And watch the results happen “automatically.”
