In the past couple of years there has been a lot of talk about
“healthy” fats – especially oils.
And especially in “Mediterranean” diets.
Of course I’m talking about olive oil.
I always thought olive oil was healthy.
And therefore I always thought cooking with it would make
me more healthy.
Apparently, I was wrong.
Recently Consumer Reports revealed that approximately
20% of ALL olive oils are FAKE and have been mixed with
other cheap oils, while still claiming to be 100% pure.
when they discovered that 73% of olive oils labeled as
“extra virgin” (the best and most nutritious kind of olive oil)
did NOT PASS purity testing and were instead heavily
(Even sneakier bastages!)
What does this mean?
(Not the “sneaky bastages” part – the “heavily processed”
It means that the olive oil you have in your kitchen RIGHT
NOW has a very strong chance of being heavily processed
and may even contain up to 100% vegetable oil, both instances
in which your olive oil will be LOADED with dangerous trans
fats that are destroying your health and wreaking havoc on
(That’s why we cook primarily with coconut oil now. Well, one
of the reasons. Apparently my wife is WAY ahead of me…)
